Van Heusen Trio

Darn That Dream

"Darn That Dream" was introduced in the 1939 Broadway musical "Swingin’ the Dream" by Jimmy Van Heusen. The production was loosely based on Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream and starred Louis Armstrong, Maxine Sullivan, Bill Bailey, and Dorothy Dandridge. At his most sophisticated, Van Heusen presents an angelic melody that is devilishly difficult for the novice jazz performer. Many exotic harmonic devices are used and are wedded to the melodic line in a way not often heard in this genre.

Fly Me To The Moon

"Fly Me to the Moon" was written by Bart Howard in 1954. It was titled originally "In Other Words" and was in waltz time. The song became known popularly as "Fly Me to the Moon" from its first line, and after a few years the publishers officially changed the title. Nowadays it is almost exclusively performed in 4/4 time.

Girl From Ipanema

"Garota de Ipanema" ("The Girl from Ipanema") is a bossa nova song written in 1962 by Antonio Carlos Jobim. The version performed by Astrud Gilberto, along with Joćo Gilberto and Stan Getz, from the 1964 album Getz/Gilberto, became an international hit.

Four

Although Miles Davis is credited as the composer of this tune, Eddie Vinson is generally believed to have written it, possibly for Miles Davis.
